Judgment came against Asharam Bapu who has encroached land worth 80 Crores in
Surat through

political connections. He get's court judgment for his land scam in
Surat, Gujarat. On the said land presently occupied by Asaram Bapu Trust, the Surat Municipal Corporation had proposed a water work projects for Jehangirpura, Ramder and Adajan areas. But the Trust illegally occupied it and built some structures on it.
Delivering the verdict in a petition filed by a farmer, the High Court severely
criticized the Trust and the Government. It also laid down guidelines for religious Trusts and
organizations. The Collector was asked by the Bench to take possession of the land if the Trust failed to do so. It said that the Government should not hesitate to remove illegal constructions done by religious Trusts.
The 31-page judgment has also observed how the tendency has grown to usurp the lands in the name of religious and public trusts and how the politicians help them in
regularizing such encroachments.
